Living Without You

How do you cope with the loss of a loved one? Do you withdraw into a fantasy world where he/she is still with you?  Do you escape reality?

When Mari thought Harley was dead, she wrote out her grief in a series of letters addressed to Harley.

What if the person you lost was your soulmate? Years ago, I lost the love of my life, my soulmate. At the time I felt like my life was over. I withdrew into a world of grief and wanted nothing more than to join my beloved behind the veil. Yes, I contemplated suicide.

Then, one night as I sat on the floor of my bedroom thinking about the ways I could take my life I had a vision. My beloved did not want that for me. He wanted me to go on living.

So I did. It was the hardest thing I ever did. Trying to live without my love took courage and strength I wasn’t sure I had. People told me the pain of grief goes away. That eventually you stop missing that person. I did not find that to be true. I learned that with time the pain diminishes, but it never entirely goes away. The love you feel is still there in your heart.

Some people move on and find other partners, some don’t. Regardless of whether you  do so or not, the love for your lost one is still in your heart. Eventually, you find that you can look back on the time you shared with joy, and tenderness. This remembrance brings pleasant emotions and healing.

I write romance stories. I love romance and all the emotion that goes with it. I love the joy and the heartache, the feeling of being in love with someone special.
